Comfort in Crisis
The devastating explosion at the port of the city of Beirut, Lebanon in August 2020 led to extensive damage to surrounding buildings and over much the rest of the capital, leaving casualties and thousands of people who lost their homes and livelihoods. CBM was quick to respond through its local partner, providing shelter for families and individuals whose homes were partially or totally damaged.
As of September 2020, about 70 people, including health care workers, were housed by Arab Baptist Theological Seminary (ABTS) and provided for.
Academic Coordinator Sisil shares, “It took time for them to understand who we are, but now they are starting to have conversations with us about our faith and what it means to be a believer. It is wonderful that we are finding the financial support to provide for their psychological, emotional, and material needs. What I’ve found touching is the happiness and sincerity we’ve seen come to light in these people. We feel that they ended up here because the Lord so intended. It is amazing that we can be open for anyone and be able to help fulfill the needs of those impacted by the blast.”
