Nazario lives in a remote area in Bolivia, where his nearest neighbour is almost an hour away by foot, and where Chagas disease is rampant – a disease common in rural areas of Latin America where poverty is widespread. He recently lost his wife, which took a great toll on Nazario and his family, as well as their family’s resources.
However, through CBM’s Chagas program, which provides prevention, education and treatment of the disease in partnership with local communities and agencies, participants like Nazario also receive crucial farming provisions, allowing him to grow and produce crops which help provide a source of income, while also feeding his family.
Nazario also received assistance to improve his home so that his family would have greater protection against catching the disease. While making his home safe for his children, they too have benefited from the emotional, spiritual and physical support provided through the program.
